County Line Meats is the way that we market beef and pork direct-to-consumer.
We raise the beef, and pork is raised locally by another local farmer.
We take orders through our website and participate in a couple farmers markets. Customers can pick-up their order at our farm, at Bier & Win in Circleville, and we offer delivery.
We want to share more about who we are and how County Line Meats came to be so that you know the farmers that are raising your food.
Mike, Kim, Nathan, Calvin and Blaine Videkovich
My name is Kim Videkovich and my husband Mike and I are the 5th generation in my family to farm.
I was born and raised on the farm.
Growing-up, I was active in 4H and helped on the farm, but did not see myself staying on the farm. After high school, I went to THE Ohio State University and got a business degree. I also met Mike.
After we got married, we were living in New Albany. When we started our family, we realized that our entire support system was about an hour away, where I grew-up, so we moved to Ashville to be closer to my family.
Mike grew up in a suburb setting in Waukesha, Wisconsin and Centerville, Ohio. He had no agricultural background or exposure. He also went to THE Ohio State University and majored in Computer Science and Engineering. After graduation, he worked in that field for 5 years.
Mike's ideal weekend involved playing golf. But, often I would mention to him that my dad needed help on the farm. So, he would often help with the cattle and found that he enjoyed it. He enjoyed that it was always different and he enjoyed being around the animals. He never really liked being in an office, at a desk, and would much rather be outside.
In 2006, the person working with my dad decided to move on to something else. Mike and I approached my parents (Ray and Donna) about Mike working on the farm.
We all agreed to try it for a year. We all wondered:
- Would Mike like it?
- Would Mike and my dad like working together?
- Would it work financially for Mike and I?
It's been 18 years and he still enjoys it, Mike and Ray work pretty well together and Mike and I figured out the financial part.
